For every product in our database, we divide the current Amazon price by the manufacturer's stated net weight. While the same brand may offer 4 lb, 15 lb, and 30 lb bags, the cost per pound often varies significantly. petfoodprice.com exposes these discrepancies, ranking products by their real economic value rather than their shelf price.

Inclusion Criteria

To ensure an accurate "apples-to-apples" comparison, we only include:

• Dry Kibble: Standard dry food for dogs and cats.
• Freeze-Dried: Raw-alternative foods and treats.

Exclusions: We strictly exclude wet food, pâtés, fresh rolls, and refrigerated meals. Because these products consist of up to 80% water, comparing them by weight against dry food would be misleading and fail to reflect their actual nutritional cost.

Data & Update Frequency

Our catalog is updated daily. We track products from Amazon's rankings using an upsert methodology:

• Stability: Products remain in our database even if they temporarily drop in Amazon's rankings, ensuring a stable price history.
• Precision: When a price change is detected, our system records the update immediately to reflect the most current data available.

Bag Size Categorization

To help you find the right quantity for your household, we categorize bags as follows:

• Small: Under 5 lb
• Medium: 5 lb to 19.9 lb
• Large: 20 lb and above
