Overview

ORIJEN's Fit & Trim recipe offers a protein-rich, calorie-conscious diet designed to support your cat's lean muscle mass and healthy body weight. This 12 lb bag features a blend of fresh and raw animal ingredients, reflecting a diet that is biologically appropriate for a feline carnivore. By prioritizing high-quality animal protein and limiting carbohydrates, ORIJEN aims to provide cats with the nutrients they need to thrive. The "Fit & Trim" formula is specifically crafted for cats who may be less active or prone to weight gain, making it a popular choice for indoor adult cats. Its grain-free composition also caters to felines with sensitivities or owners who prefer to avoid grains in their pet's diet. This food combines the nutritional integrity of raw ingredients with the convenience of a dry kibble.

Feeding guide

A general guideline for adult cats is to feed approximately 1/3 to 1/2 cup of dry food per 10 lbs of ideal body weight per day. This amount should be split into two meals. However, this can vary significantly based on the cat's age, metabolism, and activity level. Always consult the specific feeding chart on the ORIJEN packaging and adjust portions to maintain a lean body condition. Fresh water should always be available.

Ingredients & nutrition note

This product is marketed as containing "Fresh & Raw Animal Ingredients." While we cannot display the full, specific ingredient list, recipes in this category from ORIJEN typically feature a diverse mix of poultry, fish, and eggs as primary sources of protein. These formulas are grain-free, using legumes and whole vegetables as carbohydrate sources instead. Always check the product packaging for the most accurate and complete ingredient and guaranteed analysis information.

Price comparison

With a price of $7.42 per pound, this ORIJEN Fit & Trim formula sits comfortably in the premium tier of the dry cat food market. For medium-sized bags, the category average is around $5.51/lb, and the median is $4.30/lb. This product's cost reflects its high concentration of fresh and raw animal ingredients, placing it well above the budget and mid-range options but below the most expensive specialty and prescription diets.

Frequently asked questions

Is ORIJEN Fit & Trim suitable for kittens?

This recipe is specifically formulated to "Support Healthy Weight," which is generally a need for adult or less active cats. Kittens have different nutritional requirements for growth and development, including higher calorie and fat content. It is best to choose a formula specifically designed for kittens, such as ORIJEN Kitten.

What does "fresh and raw animal ingredients" mean?

In ORIJEN's terminology, "fresh" ingredients are refrigerated without preservatives, while "raw" ingredients are frozen at their peak freshness. This approach is used to preserve the integrity and bioavailability of the nutrients in the meat, poultry, and fish used in the recipe.

Why is this food grain-free?

Grain-free diets are formulated for cats who may have sensitivities or allergies to common grains like corn, wheat, or soy. They also align with a nutritional philosophy that a wild cat's diet would not naturally include grains, thus focusing on meat-based protein and fat as the primary energy sources.

How can this food help with weight management?

Weight control formulas like ORIJEN Fit & Trim are typically rich in protein and lower in fat and carbohydrates compared to standard adult maintenance diets. The high protein helps cats feel full and supports lean muscle, while the controlled calorie count helps prevent or reduce excess weight gain.

The title mentions freeze-dried cat treats. Are they included?

The product title seems to be a combination of two different items: the "Orijen Fit & Trim 12lb" dry food and the "Regional Red 1.25oz" freeze-dried treats. This purchase is for the 12 lb bag of dry food. The treats are a separate product that would need to be purchased independently unless specified as a bundle.

Is a high-protein diet safe for every cat?

While a high-protein diet is biologically appropriate for most healthy cats, it may not be suitable for all. Cats with certain health conditions, particularly kidney or liver issues, may require a diet with controlled protein levels. Always consult with your veterinarian before switching your cat's food, especially if they have pre-existing health concerns.
