Overview

TRMC offers a unique approach to canine nutrition with their Real Meat Air Dried Dog Food, presented in a 10lb package containing two separate 5lb bags for maximum freshness. This recipe moves away from high-heat extrusion used for conventional kibble, instead utilizing an air-drying method that aims to preserve the nutritional integrity and flavor of its primary ingredient: real, USA-sourced chicken. The chicken is specified as being hormone-free and from free-range sources, appealing to owners who prioritize animal welfare and ingredient quality. The grain-free formulation targets dogs with sensitivities or owners who prefer a diet focused on animal protein. This food is not a traditional crunchy kibble; air-dried foods typically have a denser, jerky-like texture that can be served as a complete meal or used as a high-value topper to entice picky eaters. By gently removing moisture, the process concentrates the protein and nutrients, resulting in a nutrient-dense final product.

Cons

  • As a grain-free product, it may not be the ideal choice for all dogs, pending discussion with a vet.

Best for

This food is best suited for dog owners seeking the absolute highest tier of ingredient quality and processing methods, who are willing to invest in a nutrient-dense, minimally processed diet. It is an excellent choice for active adult dogs, picky eaters who can be enticed by a jerky-like texture, or as a high-value meal topper. Owners must be prepared for the significant cost.

Feeding guide

As an air-dried food, TRMC is significantly more nutrient-dense than typical kibble, and portion sizes will be smaller. Always refer to the specific feeding chart on the packaging for the most accurate guidance. As a general starting point, an adult dog might require 1/4 to 1/2 cup per 15 lbs of body weight per day. This should be split into at least two meals. Adjust the amount based on your dog's age, activity level, and body condition. Always provide fresh, clean water.

Ingredients & nutrition note

While the title specifies high-quality, free-range, and hormone-free chicken as the primary ingredient, we do not have the complete ingredient list. Grain-free recipes like this one typically use alternative carbohydrate sources like peas, lentils, or sweet potatoes. Air-dried foods often contain a very high percentage of meat, organs, and ground bone to create a complete and balanced meal. We recommend consulting the product packaging for the full ingredient panel and guaranteed analysis to ensure it meets your dog's specific needs.

Price comparison

Priced at $16.34 per pound, this TRMC air-dried food is positioned in the ultra-premium tier of the market. Comparing it to 93 other medium-sized bags of dry dog food, its cost is substantially higher than the category average of $6.07 per pound and the median of $3.47 per pound. This price reflects its specialized air-drying manufacturing process, high meat content, and premium sourcing from free-range, hormone-free chicken, placing it among the most expensive dog foods available.

Frequently asked questions

What is air-dried dog food?

Air-dried food is a type of minimally processed pet food where raw ingredients are gently dried at low temperatures to remove moisture and preserve pathogens, eliminating the need for high-heat extrusion. The result is a nutrient-dense food with a jerky-like texture that retains more of the natural vitamins and enzymes from the whole ingredients.

Is this food the same as freeze-dried?

No, they are different. Air-drying involves circulating warm air to slowly evaporate moisture. Freeze-drying involves freezing the food and then placing it in a vacuum, which causes the ice to turn directly into vapor. Both are preservation methods, but the texture and rehydration properties can differ.

Can I use this food as a topper?

Absolutely. Due to its high meat content and palatability, air-dried food makes an excellent and highly motivating meal topper. Crumbling a small amount over your dog's regular kibble can entice picky eaters and add a boost of high-quality protein to their diet.

Why is this food so much more expensive than regular kibble?

The high price is due to several factors: the cost of using large quantities of real, free-range meat; the specialized, time-consuming air-drying process which is more expensive than mass-producing kibble; and the premium, USA-sourced ingredients. You are paying for a minimally processed, nutrient-dense product.

Is a grain-free diet right for my dog?

While grain-free diets are popular and can be beneficial for dogs with specific grain allergies or sensitivities, they are not automatically superior for every dog. We strongly recommend consulting with your veterinarian to discuss your dog's individual health needs and determine if a grain-free diet is the most appropriate choice.

How should I store this food?

The product comes in two 5lb bags to help with freshness. You should store it in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed in its original bag. Unlike raw or fresh food, it does not require refrigeration after opening.
